Highway Patrol Comfort Bear Toy Drive to help children involved in tragedies

Maricopa County, AZ – Arizona Highway Patrol Association (AHPA) kicks off their yearly Comfort Bear Toy Drive from March 11, 2013 through April 7, 2013 to help console kids impacted by tragedy.   AHPA is asking those willing to help by dropping off a new stuff animal at any Valley Famous Dave’s restaurants in Mesa, Peoria, Chandler or Gilbert.

“Car accidents, domestic abuse situations and violent crime impact everyone, and when there’s children involved, the ramifications are especially difficult,” stated Sgt. Jimmy Chavez, President of AHPA.

The Arizona Highway Patrol Association is collecting new stuffed animals, nicknamed “Comfort Bears”, to help comfort children impacted by trauma. These stuffed toys are distributed to law enforcement personnel throughout the state to provide a level of ease to these children. Additionally, they serve as a communication mechanism so that children learn early on that law enforcement will always be there to help.  “Comfort Bears” are usually kept in the trunks of law enforcement vehicles for immediate use.

Famous Dave’s have teamed up to assist AHPA with the drive.  Famous Dave’s is offering a FREE two meat combination lunch meal for every new stuffed toy dropped off to any of their Valley locations beginning March 11th through April 7th or while supplies last. Famous Dave’s is in Chandler at 3250 West Frye Road; Peoria at 16148 North 83rd Avenue, SanTan Village in Gilbert at 2206 E Williams Field Rd and Mesa Riverview in Mesa at 1011 Dobson Road.

“In years past, we received about 2,000 “Comfort Bears” during a drive, but we are hoping to receive more due to the need and positive effect these bears have,” concluded Chavez.
